Cops restrict heavy vehicles on Pinjore-Kalka stretch

A day after the death of 7-year-old girl Jhalak and her grandfather Hom Bahadur Thapa on the 'killer' Pinjore-Kalka stretch on the Panchkula-Shimla highway, the Panchkula police on Saturday imposed restrictions on the movement of heavy vehicles.

A day after the death of 7-year-old girl Jhalak and her grandfather Hom Bahadur Thapa on the 'killer' Pinjore-Kalka stretch on the Panchkula-Shimla highway, the Panchkula police on Saturday imposed restrictions on the movement of heavy vehicles.

Starting Monday, heavy vehicles trucks will not be allowed to ply from 7.30am to 10.30am, 1pm to 3pm and 5pm to 8pm on the Pinjore-Kalka stretch. "We have taken the decision after tying up with the district administration. However, army vehicles are exempted and we will also allow buses to ply," clarifies deputy commissioner of police (DCP) Ashwin Shenvi.

HT had reported on Saturday in its report "Schoolgirl run over by truck in Pinjore" that the police would restrict the movement of heavy vehicles on the Pinjore-Kalka road during school and evening hours.

Now, in a statement issued on Saturday, Shenvi said, "In view of a large number of accidents and frequent traffic jams due to heavy rush of vehicles on the road passing through the markets of Pinjore and Kalka, it has been decided that entry of heavy vehicles on the road stretch from Mallah junction to Kalka/ Parwanoo tax barrier on the Pinjore-Parwanoo road and from T-point near Pinjore police station to Charnia T-point on the Nalagarh road will be restricted …"
