The Delhi high court Monday sought the CBI's response on a plea by former Haryana chief minister Om Prakash Chautala seeking six weeks' interim bail following the death of his younger brother, Pratap Singh Chautala.

A division bench of justice Kailash Gambhir and justice VK Shali issued notice to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which sought time to verify the status.

The court posted the matter for June 3.

Chautala, chief of the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD), was sentenced to 10 years in jail for irregularities in appointment of teachers in 2000.

Moving the bail application, Chautala pleaded that his younger brother died June 1 and being the eldest member in the family, he has to conduct the final rituals.

A trial court in the capital had sentenced Chautala, his son Ajay Chautala and eight others to 10 years in jail. One convict was sentenced to five years in jail, while 45 others were each handed out four-year jail terms in the case.
