The Estate office is all set to demolish illegal structures, which have come up in the catchment area of Sukhna Lake. The move comes after the Punjab and Haryana high court, in its recent judgment, ordered to demolish all illegal buildings, without issuing any notice.
The estate office has already started taking stock of situation following which it will be demolishing illegal structures falling in the catchment area of Sukhna Lake. The officials shall be removing structures, which fall within their jurisdiction. In all, over 150 such structures have come up in the area and would have to be removed.
Officials from the estate office said the land in the said area has been acquired by some very influential people and the exercise of demolition would be tough. The estate office will also be involving police so as to avoid any untoward situation during the exercise. A list of these illegal structures will be submitted by the estate office on the next hearing of the case. The demolition drive will start on the directions of the court.
The case pertains to devising ways and methods to restore the beauty and depleting water level of Sukhna Lake. The high court had taken suo motu notice of a media report and had been monitoring the case.

{{/usCountry}}The bench also ordered the authorities concerned to make people aware of the catchment area for which they could take the help of print and electronic media as well. The directions were also issued to Punjab, Haryana and UT of Chandigarh to submit a detailed report mentioning the action taken against violators, including the number of violators with their names and addresses.
The case would come up for hearing on May 23.
