Suspected militants, on Tuesday, shot a deputy sarpanch in Shopian township of north Kashmir's Baramulla district. Mohd Yaqoob Mala was fired upon by unidentified gunmen in the market, causing him serious injuries.

Mala was rushed to the hospital where doctors said he is stable. "He has received serious injuries but is stable," said a police spokesmam. As per information, Mala was associated with National Conference.
Although the elections at the grassroot level were contested in a non-partisan manner, the elected representatives later showed their allegiance to varios mainstream parties. Police have launched a hunt to nab the assailants.
No militant outfit has so far claimed responsibility for the killing.
