Desi diyas (earthen lamps) are set to eclipse Chinese fancy lights this Diwali here. The industrialists of the industrial town of Faridabad have decided not to use Chinese lights and also to completely avoid crackers. They have announced to make use of earthen diyas, this Diwali.
The main industrial body, Faridabad Industries Association, announced on Friday night here that they would exercise restraint in ostentatious display of lights on buildings, factories, etc.
"It will be a wonderful idea to purchase diyas instead of fancy lights, which will in turn give livelihood to artisans who make these diyas," said Navdeep Chawla, president of Faridabad Industries Association.
Not only Chinese fancy lights, the industries association also underscored the need for avoiding bursting crackers. "The change in weather brings problems for the asthmatics and the old people. Bursting loud crackers not only causes noise pollution but also affects the health of the elderly people and spreads air pollution," the industries body said in an appeal.
It may be mentioned several social organisations have also appealed people to avoid Chinese fancy lights and stick to earthen diyas made by local artisans. Observers believe that such an appeal made by industries association means a lot as they give employment to lakhs of people who would certainly honour the appeal from their employers. Prominent industrialist KC Lakhani was also present when the appeal was made.
