Distribution companies in the state (discoms) have managed to cater to the increasing demand for electricity without restricting power supply during peak hours. A spokesman for the Haryana Power Utilities said the demand for electricity at 8.15 pm was 8037 MW on Monday as against 7008 MW on the same day last year. The state's power grid received 1,674.37 lakh units on Monday compared to 1,443 lakh units supplied on the same day last year.
The discoms in the state, the Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam and Uttar Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam, on Monday supplied electricity to consumers from all categories for more than the scheduled time. The highest load taken by the transmission and distribution system in Haryana was 8,114 MW on July 4, 2013. Later, power utilities in the state added 53 new substations and augmented the capacity of 177 existing substations. Nearly 450 kilometre-long transmission lines were added to the network, which had augmented the capacity of the grid considerably.
According to the spokesman, the present schedule for power supply in the state is eight hours per day for tube-well consumers, 14 hours for rural domestic consumers, 20 hours for urban domestic consumers and 20 hours and 30 minutes for industrial consumers. Discoms have supplied more than the scheduled power to consumers every day.
On an average, on June 30, electricity was supplied for 8 hours and 33 minutes to tube well consumers, over 14 hours to rural domestic consumers, 23 hours and 21 minutes to industrial consumers and 23 hours and 34 minutes to urban domestic consumers. He said the projected demand for electricity from June to September in Haryana was between 8,100 and 8,300 MW, whereas the state had already arranged up to 10,600 MW power through various sources.
