“Dr GC Garg used to claim that his medicine will help birth of male child. He also claimed that his medicine could be taken in both pre- and post-conception stages,” said Narender Ahuja Vivek, assistant, state drug controller, Haryana, who was leading the team.

Acting on a complaint, a decoy customer was sent to Dr Garg, who used to operate from house number 253 in Sector 15.

“He gave a medicine worth Rs 3,600 for birth of male children. After that we disclosed our identity and registered a case against him under Section 3A (for prohibition of conducting sex selection) of the Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques (Regulation and Prevention of Misuse) Act,” said Vivek.

Dr Garg used to give such medicines to male persons.

After checking the clinic, the team also found instruments for carrying out abortions. “As no one can give medicine to alter the sex of the child, he used to perform abortions in case of female fetuses. For this we will get registered a case against him under Medical Termination of Pregnancy Act,” added Vivek.

As the doctor was claiming to give medicines for ‘curing sexual impotence’ and ‘erectile dysfunction’, a case under the Drugs and Magic Remedies Act was also registered against him as no drug can claim to cure it.
