Education minister Daljit Singh Cheema on Friday issued instructions to prepare a detailed training programme for English teachers in 10 days besides seeking a report on the result of Punjabi subject in the state-run schools till August 3.

In a meeting of the core group prepared to train English teachers, Cheema made it clear that there would be zero tolerance for poor results in any stream. He said the department would be focused on English and Punjabi and all English teachers would be trained at the district level by subject experts. In case of Punjabi, a detailed report would be prepared regarding the poor performance of schools.

He ordered forming of committees comprising heads of district institutes of teachers' training, English lecturers and DEOs concerned and a meeting would be held on July 6 in which all officials concerned would be present. He said that after a detailed discussion a blueprint would be prepared about the training, which would be announced in Chandigarh the same day.

He said a detailed report would be prepared on the basis of the recommendation after evaluating the situation at the grassroots level about the causes of students' poor showing in Punjabi. The minister said he would personally evaluate the reports of all districts on August 10.
