Teachers from various cadres in the state blocked the Barnala-Moga National Highway at Cheema village for two hours on Friday, demanding regularisation of their services.

Shaheed Kiranjit Kaur EGS / AIE (ETT) Adhyapak Action Committee (Punjab) blocked the Before the blockade, Union members shouted slogans against state government for three hours near a water tank, where six teachers had stayed on for three weeks.

Their meeting with the chief minister and the education department officials had failed on Wednesday.
Gagan Kaur, one of seven committee members who had attended the meeting said, "Instead of promising any job at a decent salary, they asked us to re-join as volunteers on a meager honourarium of Rs 1,000 per month. When we resisted, they offered to increase it to Rs 2,000. It's peanuts to us."

Union leader Sukhchain Singh Gurney said, "More than 900 AIE volunteers from Punjab joined here for a dharna and road blockade. Unions have lent support. We plan another protest on January 15."
