In an attempt to underplay the recent verbal attack by his bête noire Birender Singh, chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda said on Monday that political statements of individual Congress leaders would not affect the electoral prospects of the party. Birender Singh had said that he would not contest the forthcoming assembly polls under Hooda’s leadership. Singh had also demanded Hooda’s removal for better results in the assembly polls.

“Elections are always contested under the leadership of the present chief minister and Birender is not holding that office. I can be removed only by the party high command, my legislators or the public,” he said.

He said if the high command projects someone as the next chief minister, the party workers should go by the decision. “Birender Singh may have a difference on opinion on certain issues, but there is no rivalry between us,” he added. Denying charges of lopsided development, he said the entire state had witnessed an inclusive development.

Addressing party workers at Fatehabad, Hooda said despite the poor performance of the Congress in the Lok Sabha polls, the party would march ahead and form the government for the third consecutive term in the state. He said the party would give tickets to honest candidates and expose the wrongdoings of the opposition.
