Employees continued to stay away from work for the second day today on a three-day general strike called by employees unions, alleging that government was not serious to resolve their demands.
About four lakh state government employees started the three-day strike from yesterday after rejecting the government appeal to call off strike.
The employees also observed two-day strike on May 8 and 9, a day after the Civil Secretariat, seat of the government, reopened in summer capital after functioning from winter capital Jammu for six months.
All government offices, including the consumer affairs and public distribution (CA&PD) ration depots and headquarters remained closed.
The government educational institutions also wore a deserted look as students and teaching staff stayed away. However, private institutions were functioning normally.
The employees were demanding among other things, payments of arrears of 6th pay commission, regularisation of daily wagers, contractuals, anganwari workers and adhoc employees. They are also demanding increase in the retirement age from present 58 years to 60 years.
The employees alleged that government was not serious to fulfill the promises made to them from time to time.
