Bansal had left the function before the arrest was carried out.

Police sources said that Dimpy had arrived in the city from Goa on Friday night.

Former Punjab director general of police SS Virk had complained about Dimpy in a property dispute dating back to 2006. Once a close associate of Virk, Dimpy was arrested on a warrant after a case was registered against him in January 2013.

Pardeep Virk, the son of the former DGP, spoke to the media and claimed that in 2006, the family had paid Dimpy ` 50 lakh to look for property in Chandigarh.

Virk claimed that Dimpy failed to locate the property and did not return the money. “My father then complained against Dimpy to Chandigarh police in 2012 and a case was registered in 2013,” he added.

Inspector Bhupinder Singh, incharge of EOW, said, “Dimpy was coming back from the function in the sector and was yet to enter his house, when our team nabbed him around 10.45pm. He was wanted in the case of forgery and cheating lodged by ex-DGP Punjab SS Virk.”
