Chief minister Virbhadra Singh on Monday told union human resource development minister Smriti Irani that the state had proposed to conduct examination. Showing his concern, Singh said owing to abolishing the examination system, falling standard of education in elementary sector had become a matter of concern.
“In order to check the falling standards of education, the state has proposed to conduct examination of Classes 5 and 8 till continuous comprehensive evaluation (CCE) is implemented strictly in the state,” said Singh, who met HRD minister in New Delhi on Monday.
He apprised that the Vidhan Sabha had also unanimously adopted a resolution in this regard and a request had been sent to the central government to make amendment in Right to Education Act, 2009.Singh urged union human resource development minister for extending uniform funding pattern for centrally sponsored schemes.
He said there were centrally sponsored scheme such as Rashtriya Madhiyamik Shiksha Abhiyan (RMSA) and mid-day meal on analogy of the North-Eastern Special Category States for Himachal as these states were getting fund in the proportion of 90:10.
The CM also apprised the union minister that Himachal had done a commendable job in implementation of Sarva Siksha Abhiyan and said the state had covered all primary schools under mid-day meal scheme. He said the state had excelled in achieving literacy rate and posed to become fully literate state in near future.

Singh also apprised that a land measuring 188 acres situated in Mauja Kolar, near Paonta Sahib in Sirmaur district, has been identified by the district administration. He requested that a site selection committee be sent to finalise the site soon, so that the work on this prestigious institution could be started in time.
