Additional district and sessions judge Atul Kasana on Monday dismissed Delhi resident Gurpreet Singh’s plea, urging the court to implead him as a party in the Faridkot property dispute case.
Giving a twist to the ongoing dispute over inheritance of the property of Maharaja of Faridkot Sir Harinder Singh Brar, Gurpreet in January had moved an application to this effect.
In the application, Gurpreet had said that Amrit Kaur, the Maharaja’s daughter, had on February 14, 1996, entered into an assignment deed for a total consideration of Rs 65 lakh, which was paid to her. The application mentioned that a general power of attorney was also registered.
Through the application, Gurpreet intimated the court that as per the assignment deed, he would get a major share of the property in case the suit challenging the will, by which the Maharwal Khewaji Trust was made the caretaker of the Maharaja’s property, was decided in favour of Amrit Kaur.
The application was strongly opposed by the trust submitting that Gurpreet Singh was well aware of the pending litigation but did not choose to be impleaded as party before the trial court.
Royal dispute
On July 25, 2013, chief judicial magistrate Rajnish Kumar Sharma had nullified the will authorising the Trust as the caretaker of the Maharaja’s property, paving the way for the latter’s daughters Amrit Kaur and Deepinder Kaur to inherit the property. Sir Harinder Singh Brar had died in 1989.
The application was strongly opposed by the trust submitting that Gurpreet Singh was well aware of the pending litigation but did not choose to be impleaded as party before the trial court.

There are four appeals before the court: one filed by the trust, two by Amaninder Singh Brar, grandson of Maharaja’s younger brother Kanwar Manjitinder Singh, and another by Amrit Kaur.
The court adjourned the hearing of the appeals challenging the order by which the court had made the Maharaja’s daughters legal heirs to his Rs 20,000-crore property to August 14.
Order reserved
The court had reserved the order on a plea seeking appointment of administrator as caretaker of the Rs 20,000-crore property of erstwhile Maharaja of Faridkot Sir Harinder Singh Brar. The plea was filed by his younger brother Kanwar Manjitinder Singh’s son Bharatinder Singh. The trial court had already dismissed their plea staking claim on inheritance of the property of the Maharaja.
