The fight over the issue of ghost faculty deepened further in Punjab Medical Council on Wednesday when the medical education director, who is also registrar of Punjab Medical Council, asked the council president to dissolve the committee on ghost faculty.
In March, the PMC had found more than 400 ghost teachers in four private medical colleges in Punjab, Haryana and HP.
The PMC had found that the doctors were shown to be working as full-time members of the faculty and drawing full salaries, but they worked elsewhere and visited the college once a week or in 10 days to circumvent the MCI rules. Following this the PMC president had constituted a committee to look into the issue. It included two members from outside the council -- Baba Farid University of Health Sciences vice-chancellor Dr Raj Bahadur and Dr Gautam Ahluwalia from Dayanand Medical College, Ludhiana.
Now, in a fresh communication, medical education director Dr Manjit Kaur Mohi said the committee was illegal as it had two members from outside the council, so the meeting of the committee which was slated for Friday stood cancelled.
However, council chief Dr GS Grewal said he is within his rights to invite people from outside the council and the meeting would take place as per schedule.
