Property worth lakhs of rupees was destroyed on Saturday in a major fire that broke out in an electronic showroom in Dogra Chowk area of this winter capital here.
A major fire broke out in a showroom near City Square at Dogra Chowk at around 2100 hrs. No casualties were reported in the incident.
"People from the adjoining shops rushed to the spot and tried to douse the flames but the devastating fire went out of control," a police official said.
He added that three fire fighting tenders along with the team of fire fighters were immediately pressed into service to control the fire. "The fire tenders reached the spot to battle the blaze and it took about one hour to control the wild fire," the official said.
The reason behind the fire could not be ascertained, he added. Though the exact loss is yet to be estimated but property worth lakhs is reported to be destroyed in the fire. Police have registered a case.
