Additional district and sessions judge Anshu Shukla will hear the case from July 23, when evidence will be recorded.

On May 6 this year, the UT police had booked Vermani undersection 376 (rape) for allegedly raping a 30-year-old woman divorcee on the pretext of securing a job for her, after mixing sedatives in her juice at a room in a hotel on May 4.

The complainant, t he mother of an eight-year-old, hailing from Hamirpur in Himachal Pradesh, had come in contact with Vermani while seeking treatment from him for a thyroid ailment at his Sector 2 clinic. The complainant had alleged that she was taken to Hotel Shivalik View in Sector 17 on May 4 (Sunday) on the pretext that an interview had been arranged there.

Ver mani had picked up the victim from her rented accommodation in Sector 11 and had taken her to the hotel room where he had offered her a glass of juice laced with intoxicants and raped her when she lost consciousness.

VERMANI’S VERSION

Contradicting the allegations, Vermani claimed that he was implicated. He had accused the victim of blackmailing him and claimed to have known her for just two days prior to the registration of the case and not six months, as the victim had alleged.
