The Government Multi-Specialty Hospital in Sector 16 turned into a mini-cantonment on Saturday as family members of the woman killed by her husband, a UT police constable on Friday, staged a massive protest against the Chandigarh Police. The cop Anand Kumar had shot dead his wife Dimple, an employee at the hospital, at the entrance to the OPD on Friday morning.

The body will be handed over to the family on Sunday for cremation. Traffic on the road leading up to the hospital was blocked for around 30 minutes.

A five-member delegation from the family and the members of the Joint Action Committee of the hospital met UT SSP Sukhchain Singh Gill later in the day and demanded that the victim’s son be given a job and that action be taken against policemen who did not act on their complaints against Kumar. The protesters demanded that the Sector-24 police post incharge Lakhbir Singh and SHO Sector 11 Malkit Singh be suspended for ignoring complaints for the last five months.

Victim’s sister Santosh said, “Only this week we had met UT SSP Sukhchain Singh Gill, but instead of acting against the cop, he sent us to the women cell. Dimple was killed as the police did not take us seriously.”
