Campaigning at PU not only happens during the day but takes an entirely different colour in the evening. There is no dearth of passion among student leaders and party supporters during late nights making the most of the little time in hand to garner as many votes as possible.
If days are devoted to canvassing in the departments, evenings have been exclusively kept aside for hostels, with leading parties including SOPU and PUSU visiting the premises in 'tolis' (groups) for the campaign.
A tradition being followed for years now, the tolis are most looked out by residents of the girls' hostels, as it gives them an opportunity to display their favourite party's show of strength in their hostel.
The canvassing in the girls' hostels during the evening, however, is no small deal as supporters from all the contesting parties take it as a prestige issue to drown their contemporaries' voice in the ensuing din that they all manage to create.
Sample this: It was not a cakewalk for PUSU supporters when they visited Savitri Bai Hostel and Sarojini Hall on Tuesday evening. SOPU girls, who had already occupied 'strategic' positions in the balcony of the hostels, resorting to all means- from clamouring to throwing water on the PUSU team.

"We want to show our opposition that we are at a better position and as they say, everything is fair in love and war. We are aware that we too can be subjected to the same behaviour when we visit hostels," says an enthusiastic Aditi, a SOPU supporter.

We were aware of what awaited us when we visited the hostels, yet we did not shy away from evening campaigning because we know our strengths."
