Gopal Kanda's bail plea rejected, premises raided

Absconding former Haryana Minister Gopal Kanda's anticipatory bail plea to avoid arrest in the Geetika Sharma's suicide case was today rejected by a Delhi court, which said the charges against him were serious and that he may hamper the probe.

Kanda, who is accused of abetment to suicide and criminal intimidation, has refused to appear for questioning before the Delhi Police, which carried out searches at his residence and office in Sirsa in Haryana, besides his recently launched MDK International School, a day after they raided his farmhouse and hotel.

"The allegations against Kanda are grave and serious in nature. There are allegations of calls being made from another phone and SMSes have been sent to her (Geetika) and all this is required to be investigated thoroughly," additional sessions
judge Rajnish Bhatnagar said.

"The investigation is at a very initial stage and release of accused (Kanda) would hamper the investigation. Therefore, keeping in view the facts and circumstances..., the bail application lacks merit and is hereby dismissed," the judge said. Kanda's bail plea was rejected shortly after another court allowed for two days custodial interrogation by the Delhi Police of his female employee Aruna Chaddha, who has also been accused of abetting the suicide of Geetika.
