Punjabi singers, who enjoy huge popularity in the region, were flooded by mixed reactions to their social media posts on Gurdaspur attack. Some quirky responses expressed anger over the use of words such as guns and drugs in Punjabi songs.
Facebook users Narinder Kaur and Gagandeep Singh commented, “It is a request to those singers, who use words such as 32 bore rifles, double-barrelled guns in their lyrics, to pick up their guns and reach Gurdaspur to fight militants”.
Another FB user, Raj Sandhu, wrote while referring to a particular singer, “Brother, you were not seen at Gurdaspur today. It seems that you have surrendered your weapons.”
Famous singer Mika Singh wrote on his Twitter handle, “I offer my deepest condolences to the families. This incident is another painful reminder of the sacrifice that our brave policemen face while defending our country”.
Fans asked singers to abide by the lyrics of their songs and help police to eliminate the terrorists. One particular comment, which was liked and used by scores of people on Facebook named multiple Punjabi singers. “We urge Daljeet that ‘jatts’ should fire at the terrorists in Gurdaspur! Please tell Jassi Gill that these militants are not bigger than Laden so he should go and tackle them. Somebody please tell Ninja they need to kill militants one by one! It is our request to Harsimran to reach Gurdaspur with his double-barrelled gun and take on the militants!”
The comments went on to name more singers criticising them for their arbitrarily used lyrics. “Somebody please send a message to Happy Raikoti to deal with militants after ingesting drugs (nasha patta kha ke aatankwadi chakk lai). Somebody text Sippy Gill and tell him that natives of Gurdaspur are waiting for you on the terrace that when you would echo the sound of your gun.” Posting a picture on Gurdaspur attack, Gippy Grewal wrote, "Baba ji mehar kario Punjab nu buri nazar ton bachaio" (Please God, be kind to us and save Punjab from evil eyes).

A Facebook user Deepi Gill wrote, “In the songs you talk about courage but what happened today that made you think about God. If you had courage why didn’t you go there (Gurdaspur) today? These singers are just show-offs.”
Sharry Mann, Harbhajan Maan, Roshan Prince, Amrinder Gill, Jazzy B and other singers posted their condemn remarks on their respective facebook pages.
Meanwhile, one of the singers deleted his post from the Facebook after seeing comments from his fans on his post.
Singers also got sympathy remarks from users. Pav Kaur Hayar wrote ,“Waheguru, (Oh god!) such devastating news. However, what is it with people targeting singers? Innocent humans have lost their lives whilst some of you will continuously just aim horrible comments at singers. Focus on the main problem.”
