Haryana assembly session from July 11, Punjab's from July 15

A Bill for establishing a separate Sikh gurdwara parbandhak committee for Haryana is likely to be tabled during the Haryana assembly session beginning on July 11. An official spokesman said the cabinet's consent had been obtained through circulation of the agenda to the council of ministers.

Meanwhile, the budget session of the Punjab Vidhan Sabha would begin on July 15, during which finance minister Parminder Singh Dhindsa would present the state budget for the ongoing financial year (2014-15).

The Punjab House would witness two empty seats, vacated by Capt Amarinder Singh (Patiala), elected to the Lok Sabha from Amritsar, and Jeet Mohinder Singh Sidhu (Talwandi Sabo), who had resigned as a Congress MLA to join the Shiromani Akali Dal before the Lok Sabha polls.

771 Punjabis stuck in Iraq, 16 held hostage

Of the 771 Punjabis whom the Punjab government has listed as stuck in strife-torn Iraq, 16 have been reportedly taken hostage, as per figures released by the control room set up by the state government in Chandigarh.
