Haryana extends scope of Justice TP Garg Commission

The Haryana government on Monday extended the scope of the Justice TP Garg Commission, constituted to inquire into the killing of innocent Sikhs at Haud Chillar village, to cover Pataudi and Gurgaon districts in addition to the area already assigned. Acting on directions of the Punjab and Haryana high court, the state government decided to extend areas under it.

The Haryana government on Monday extended the scope of the Justice T P Garg Commission, constituted to inquire into the killing of innocent Sikhs at Haud Chillar village, to cover Pataudi and Gurgaon districts in addition to the area already assigned.

Acting on the Punjab and Haryana high court directions, the state government decided to extend its areas. A notification to this effect has been issued. The state government had appointed the commission, headed by Justice (retd) T P Garg to an inquire into the killing of innocent Sikhs and damage caused to their properties in Haud Chillar village in Rewari district in November 1984.

The commission, however, will not inquire into the incidents that have already been investigated by Justice Nanavati Commission set up by the Centre. Any claim of the victims from Pataudi and Gurgaon districts, which had not been considered by the Nanavati panel, can be made before Justice T P Garg Commission.
