Haryana increase pension for freedom fighters, their widows

Haryana government has decided to increase the monthly pension of freedom fighters and their widows from Rs 15,000 to Rs 20,000.

Haryana government has decided to increase the monthly pension of freedom fighters and their widows from Rs 15,000 to Rs 20,000.

Announcing this at the 66th Independence Day celebrations function on Wednesday, the state chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda said that it was a gesture to the contribution made by them in the Indian freedom struggle.

Hooda said, "they sacrificed all their comforts so that the coming generations could live with dignity," adding that the society will always remain indebted to their supreme sacrifice.

Haryana had increased the pension from Rs 11,000 to Rs 15,000 last year.

In his address after unfurling the national flag, Hooda also announced that the foundation stone of Kalpana Chawla Government Medical College here would be laid on November 19.

"It was on this day in 1997 that the late astronaut Kalpana Chawla began her first space mission and the day is also celebrated as the birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi," he said.

Hooda said, the Center has assured to consider his request seriously to set up airports in Karnal and Hisar.

"Out of total six medals won by the country, four winning players hailed from Haryana", said Hooda.
