Though the regional office of the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) here, which has under it Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and Chandigarh, claims to have completed over 90 % enrolment for Aadhaar cards (numbers), Haryana continues to lag last with about 84% enrolment for the same.
According to infor mation, of the total 6.09 crore population of the re gion (comprising the said four states), over 5.49 crore have already been enrolled for the Aadhaar cards during the past about five years ever since the exercise was launched panIndia.
Unique Identification Authority of India officials informed HT that in Himachal Pradesh, the Aadhar enrolment was over 97% while Aadhaar number generation was 94% and in Chandigarh, the Aadhaar enrolment had reached 100% and Aadhaar cards generation over 89%.
Punjab had 93% Aadhaar enrolment and 87.3% card generation, Haryana continued to f are the last among the four states with only 84% enrolment and about 76% card generation.
In Haryana, though some districts showed encouraging response for Aadhaar enrolment, such as Ambala, over 106% (migratory population inclusive), Faridabad 99%, Sonepat 97.8%, Gurgaon 96.5% and Kurukshetra 93%, the enrolment got poor response in several districts such as Mewat where only about 67% people got themselves enrolled for the Aadhaar cards, Mahendergarh 70%, Jind 73% and Rohtak about 76%.
Stating that a large number of per manent enrolment centres (PEC) were operational in the region, 200 in Punjab, 69 in Haryana and 48 in Himachal Pradesh, the officials said that 15 PEC were operational in Chandigarh.
