The Haryana Government has decided to open 27 new Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) in the state during the coming three years as part of its drive to provide technical education to more and more students enabling them to earn their livelihood, besides catering to the needs of industries for technical manpower.
An official spokesman said here today that the State Government was determined to improve infrastructure in all the ITIs in the state and to achieve this objective budget provision for purchasing machinery, equipment and furniture had been raised from about Rs 19.72 crore in 2008-09 to over Rs 25.66 crore in 2009-10.
As many as, 21 ITIs had been upgraded into Centres of Excellence to provide quality technical education to the students. Policy for opening of private Industrial Training Centres had also been framed and as many as 74 such centres had been permitted to add 9468 seats, he aded.
He said that the state government had increased number of ITIs from 78 in 2005-06 to 108 in 2008-09 and their intake capacity from 15,188 to 22,240 in the state.
To make the training more relevant and accountable to the users, 37 ITIs had been adopted by 19 industries for upgradation, said the spokesman, adding that Institute Managing Commitees (IMCs) had been constituted in 57 ITIs in 20 districts to provide for direct and regular interaction between the industry and the institute.
