Aimed at "public condemnation" of the convicts in various crimes against women, the State Crime Record Bureau (SCRB) has decided to post the personal details of the offenders on its official website.

Besides names and addresses of those found guilty by the courts in the cases of rape, molestation, dowry death, eve teasing etc, the police would also post brief detail of the crime on www.scrbhelpline.com.

Details of all those convicted in crimes against women in 2000 till date would be posted on the net.

However, no photograph or sketch of such individuals would be made public.

SCRB director Laik Ram Dabas told HT on Friday that database of such convicts was being prepared and it would be uploaded from January 10 onwards.

He said that the initiative was made at the backdrop of the recent widespread public anger against the New Delhi gang rape case whose 23-year-old victim died at a Singapore hospital on December 29.

"As the conventional methods of crime prevention have proved its limitations, the new-age technology may help the police and society to use this step as a deterrent in crime against women," he said.
