The Punjab and Haryana high court has ordered the transfer of hearing in the 2008 Amritsar Improvement Trust case - in which Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee chief Capt Amarinder Singh is among the alleged accused from the court of additional sessions judge Rajinder Aggarwal in the SAS Nagar court to the seniormost judge in the same court.

The directions came from the bench headed by justice KC Puri on Friday on a petition filed by Amarinder, seeking transfer of the trial outside the state.

Appearing for the state government, additional advocate general AS Grewal informed the court that the state government had no objection if the case was transferred to some other court in the SAS Nagar district courts. The bench also recorded the statement of Amarinder's counsel that now his client did not press the petition to transfer the case outside the state.

The case is pending in the special court of SAS Nagar for framing of charges against the alleged accused Capt Amarinder Singh; former local bodies minister Ch Jagjit Singh; former chairman of Amritsar Improvement Trust Jugal Kishore Sharma, former Punjab Vidhan Sabha secretary Nachhattar Singh Mavi and 12 others.
