The division bench comprising justice AK Mittal and justice GS Sandhawalia ordered Jagir Kaur to furnish a bail bond to the satisfaction of Jalandhar chief judicial magistrate so that she could be released from jail. However, the bench directed her to surrender in Kapurthala jail before 6 pm on July 19.

Jagir Kaur had requested to be released on interim bail on July 18 and 19 stating that she was a sitting MLA and had the duty to cast her vote in the presidential elections.

Appearing for the CBI, advocate RK Handa opposed Jagir Kaur's bail plea and submitted before the court that as per media reports she had also bestowed upon a Siropa (scarf of honour) on inspector general (jails), Jagjit Singh.

The high court had already granted bail to three co-accused in the case namely Nishan Singh, Paramjeet Singh Raipur and Dalwinder Kaur Dhesi.

Jagir Kaur's main bail petition would now come up for hearing on August 21.
