Punjab and Haryana high court on Monday stayed single judge order on disqualification of five Haryana Janhit Congress MLA's (HJC-Bhajan Lal) who joined Congress in 2009.

Timeline

November 9, 2009: Haryana assembly speaker Harmohinder Singh Chatha allows merger of 5 HJC (Bhajan Lal) MLAs in Congress.

December 9, 2009: Kuldeep Bishnoi challenges merger before speaker.

December 20, 2010: HC single-judge bench directs speaker to decide Bishnoi’s petition in 4 months.

December 20, 2011: HC division bench orders that 5 MLAs would not be members of any party till final adjudication of disqualification petitions by the speaker.

January 4, 2012: Apex court stays HC division bench order.

January 13, 2013: Speaker Kuldeep Sharma holds merger of two political parties as conclusive.

February 8, 2013: Bishnoi approaches HC, challenging the speaker’s order.

October 9, 2014: High court holds HJC-Cong ‘merger’ bad in law, disqualifies MLAs.
