Health varsity V-C to take early retirement, may take political plunge

The noted orthopedician of the region Sangwan, who is serving as V-C of the university for the second consecutive term, was honoured with the Dr BC Roy Award, the highest honour in the field of medicine. Dr Sangwan is scheduled to retire after completion of his tenure in December.

Sources said Sangwan might take political plunge on Congress ticket in the coming assembly elections from Panipat (rural) assembly constituency.

His father was a Congress activist and once he broke his bone while preventing police "brutality" on Sanjay Gandhi, a member of Gandhi-Nehru dynasty during a protest, a close confidant of Sangwan said.

Talking to HT, Sangwan admitted that he was mulling over his decision of seeking retirement in near future. When asked whether he would take political plunge, he said he was inclined to keep himself active after retirement through a social platform.
