Due to some technical glitches, the number remained defunct till the report was filed. While dialing the number, the machine answered, "The number you have dialed does not exist, please check it and redial."

Police sources said there were some technical errors from the exchange and the complaint was filed on Monday morning.

Whereas residents, who were trying to approach the police for emergency services, were surprised to hear the reply after dialing the helpline number.

Jasmider Singh Bedi, a resident of Phase 3B2 said, "I was passing by a nearby market where an accident was reported and people involved into it got into a verbal tussle on the road. Though it was a minor accident but it created traffic snarl for a few time. I tried calling the police helpline number thrice, but the machine answered that the number does not exist."

"I met a minor accident at Phase 2, when a biker, who hit my car, started abusing me. I called in number 100 to lodge complaint, but was shocked to get the reply from the machine. I thought it might be some problem in my phone, when I tried it again after a few minutes, the response was still the same,"said Suresh Kumar, a resident of Sector 66.

But the numbers were still defunct with the same response till the report was filed.
