Late night talks on Saturday between agitating Jats and Haryana chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda in New Delhi failed to break the impasse, with the two parties failing to arrive at a consensus.
The meeting, which went till night, was initiated by Hooda to persuade Jats to call off their agitation. The agitators are not only demanding inclusion of Jats into the OBC category, but also cancellation of several cases against protesters.
Over the past week, train services were disrupted as the agitators sat alongside the railway tracks near Mayar village in Hisar district. The indefinite dharna near railway tracks entered the eighth day on Sunday and the indefinite fast by four Jat activists entered the fifth day. Men, women and youngsters are sitting on the sides of the railway tracks.
There are indications that Jats may intensify the agitation from Monday as leaders of various khaps are likely to meet in Jind on Monday to decide the course of action.
Sources said that while a team of 18 Jat leaders led by Sube Singh, who met Hooda late on Saturday night, were adamant on a time-bound favourable decision, the CM told them to wait for the recommendations of the Haryana Backward Classes Commission (HBCC).
