The local police on Tuesday registered a case against unidentified persons for stealing files from the office of UT deputy commissioner in Chandigarh.
A case of theft has been registered at Sector 17 police station under section 380 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). According to sources, the files pertain to a housing project. Recently, files of the project were also found missing from the Chandigarh Housing Board (CHB) office and a case was registered at Sector 3 police station.
In a complaint lodged with the UT police, Rodney L Ralte, chief executive officer at CHB, reported theft of five government files from the office. Ralte in his complaint maintained that these files pertain to the upcoming projects of the housing board.
This is for the second time that the files have been reportedly missing from CHB. About six months ago around 100 files had been reported missing. The files pertained to property records, while some were from the accounts department. Now, with the files of upcoming projects missing, CHB officials are contemplating digitalisation of the entire records to check such incidents in future.
CHB had conducted an internal inquiry and sought explanation of the officials concerned as well as the dealing staff, post which the matter was reported to the police.Sources in CHB management are suspecting a handiwork of private developers, in the theft of files.
