HP to amend eligibility criteria to buy land

The Himachal government has sought suggestions and objections from the public to amend rule 38-A of the HP Land and Tenancy Act, a government spokesperson said.

The Himachal government has sought suggestions and objections from the public to amend rule 38-A of the HP Land and Tenancy Act, a government spokesperson said.

He said, “A draft notification has been issued on July 1 to carry out amendment in rule 38-A of the act, wherein suggestions and objections were sought from the public regarding the procedure and eligibility criteria for non-agriculturalists to purchase land in the state.”

The rules framed in 2011 were not clear about Section 118 of HP Land and Tenancy Act, in which, a clause of ‘other eminent person’ was incorporated for purchasing land without specifying what ‘other eminent person’ meant. “The second clause was regarding the eligibility criteria to purchase land above 150 square metre only, which was again discriminatory as it suited only the economically well-off people,” he said.
