As Haryana Urban Development Authority (HUDA) failed to deposit income tax worth Rs 450 crore, the income tax department, Panchkula, attached its accounts located in Chandigarh and Panchkula on Tuesday.

It is pertinent to mention here that chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda is the chairman of HUDA.

The accounts are attached under section 226 of the income tax act. Now, either the HUDA will pay the tax and get the accounts unfreezed or the income tax department will ask the banks to transfer Rs 450 crore to them.

“The action was taken against the HUDA under a team led by IRS officer Manjeet Sehgal,” said a source in IT department. Till the payment of income tax, HUDA will not be able to operate the accounts.
