“I would have been dead if they had bullets in their pistol that day,” said Harpinder Singh, victim in the June 23 assault case registered here, in connection with which the UT police had gone to Moga and ended up killing two alleged gangsters in an encounter there on Wednesday. The police later arrested two men booked in the assault FIR.
Recalling the incident of June 22 night, Bathinda native Harpinder said one of the five assaulters had aimed a pistol at his forehead and pressed the trigger, “but it had no bullets”. He said the men were “so high on drugs that they were not even aware that the pistol was not loaded”. As one of them rushed back to their car to get the bullets, neighbours raised an alarm and the men escaped.
They took away Harpinder’s gold chain, purse and mobile phone.
“They were contract killers hired by two persons based abroad with whom I had a run-in around two years ago,”Harpinder said. “Even though two of the assaulters have been arrested, I am still under threat. The police should do something to arrest the two men who had given money to the assailants and ordered my killing.”

{{/usCountry}}Harpinder said that around two years ago his cousin Baljit in Moga had got into a clash with Jagmeet Singh and Balraj Singh, who allegedly sent the assaulters. Harpinder was also “present” during that clash. After that, Harpinder’s cousin left for Canada; Jagmeet and Balraj shifted to the US about six months ago.
Harpinder alleged that after assaulting him and a roommate, the men called up Jagmeet and Balraj in America. “Then they removed my clothes and made a video which they sent through WhatsApp to them.
After that, they aimed the pistol at me but I was saved as it had no bullets.”
While Rinku and two others were named in the FIR, two others are unidentified. The UT police are still not sure if the two men killed in the Moga encounter were directly involved in this case.
