Actor Binu Dhillon, who created a laugh riot in the movie, Carry On Jatta, is all set to hit the 70 mm screen again with his upcoming movies Saadi Wakhri Hai Shaan, Best of Luck, Tu Mere 22 Main Tera 22, Singh Vs Kaur, Mamla Garbar Hai and Rangeelay.
The character actor says that till next April, he plans to remain more than busy with tight schedules. All his roles, however, are light hearted and are based on situational comedy.
In his upcoming movie, Saadi Wakhri Hai Shaan, the actor sports a Johnny Depp look, complete with a goatee, long hair and retro glasses. About the same, Binu shares “Majority of the movie has been shot in Canada. The character I am playing is of a young guy named Ronak, who wanted to be a fashion designer in India. His inability to do so makes him move to Canada, where he multitasks between being a part of a bhangra troupe, driving a cab and ‘providing people’ for gatherings on funerals and orchestra performances.”
On Punjabi movies not being able to hold their ground for long, unlike Carry on Jatta, Binnu says, “The only flavour in movies these days has become quick comedy; there has to be one punch after the other to maintain a momentum from the beginning to the end. Carry on Jatta has set a benchmark for comedy movies. The time to experiment hasn’t come yet for Punjabi cinema.

{{/usCountry}}Experimentation will begin once the investments become bigger.” About his professional journey affecting his personal one, Binnu says, “When I got married, I used to earn only Rs 3,200 a month, out of which R1,300 used to go as my house rent. My daughters and wife have seen rainy days with me.
To be honest, my daughters have been very lucky for me. There was a time when I used to play all villainous roles and my daughters used to feel bad about me getting bashed up by the hero. Ever since I started playing comedy roles, the girls are happier. They have started to enjoy the stardom I’ve received of late.”
Defining comedy and the perfect way to make a blockbuster Punjabi movie he says, “Comedy is all about timing; to make a good movie the first thing is a good script. But to catch the audience’s attention, the most important thing is to have a catchy poster. People look at the poster before deciding whether or not to watch a movie.
Thus, the cast of the movie makes a lot of difference.” After the completion of his movies in April 2013, Binnu would be taking his theatre group, Naughty Baba in Town, to New Zealand.
