CBI had arrested Sarwan Shar ma on allegations of demanding bribe from Sandeep Kumar, who was convicted for kidnapping and lodged in Burail jail for life term since December 2008, to change his duty in the jail. The warden had allegedly demanded the money to get a water purifier installed at his house.

CBI had swung into action after receiving a complaint from Pratap Singh Bisht, the brother of Sandeep’s cell mate, Prem Singh Bisht, also undergoing life term in the same case.

Pratap alleged that his elder brother, Prem, had come out on parole on July 9 and told him that the jail warden was demanding bribe from his cell mate Sandeep.

As per the complaint, Sandeep had returned after getting married during his parole, and in presence of Prem had requested the jail warden to change his duty from the visitors’ room and put him on lighter duty.

The complainant said Sandeep had demanded change in duty as whenever visitors came, he had to search for the inmates in scorching heat, which could lead to heat stroke and his skin would get tanned.

Pratap sounded the CBI, who laid a trap and arrested the jail warden red-handed while taking the bribe from Pratap in front of a school in Sector 45.
