'Jaspal Bhatti did not get his due'

On his first death anniversary, comedian Jaspal Bhatti's wife Savita Bhatti had only one thing to say: “Jaspal did not get his due.” A visibly upset Savita rued, “The city did not give him the stature he deserved.” She not only blamed the city residents and the media but also the UT Administration for ignoring the artist who got Chandigarh on the international map.

Bhatti had died last year in a road accident at Nakodar in Punjab. He had shot to fame with his television series Flop Show and mini capsules Ulta Pulta that were aired on television in the late 1980s.

Savita lamented that when Bhatti died last year in a road accident no one from the UT Administration came to their house for boosting the morale of the bereaved family. She added, “Even Bhatti's alma mater Punjab Engineering College did not agree to dedicate their auditorium in the comedian's name.”

Savita further stated that she would take up the issue with the UT Administration and was already in touch with PEC management for dedicating the auditorium in his name.
