Sukhjinder Singh and his wife, who have been working at a computer centre in Sirsa, are dependent on railways for their daily commute from Kalamwali town. However, since the disruption of rail services for the past 15 days, they have been forced to take up the journey on motorcycle, which is costing them 10 times more than what they spent while travelling by train.

“Earlier, we used to spend Rs 400 per month on commuting, but for the last fortnight our daily cost of travelling is Rs 100,” Sukhjinder Singh said.

Relatives of patients, who have been admitted to hospitals in Hisar and PGIMS, Rohtak, are also not able to send money, food and other necessary items to patients. Neeraj, who is taking coaching classes for PMT in Delhi, has been stuck in Sirsa for the last 15 days. “I came home a day before the blockade was laid. My studies are suffering as all books and study material in lying in Delhi,” he said.

Expressing concern over supply of essential commodities, district food and supply controller Ashok Rawat said, “The supply of petrol and domestic gas reaches here in day and night shifts. However, owing to blockade, the day supply has been disrupted and blockade has affected 80% of supply.”

SDM Munish Nagpal said, “The situation is under control. If need be, we can seek help from adjoining Rajasthan and Punjab.”
