The district police secured his custody from a local court.

They now will interrogate him for three days about his alleged role in the SAS Nagar kidney racket unearthed in 2012 after a man accused the doctor of removing his kidney without his knowledge during a surgery at Surya Kidney Centre in Sector 69.

In the first-information (FIR) lodged under the Transplant of Human Organs and Tissues Act, the district police named Shakeel; Vikas; Amitabh Panday; Manju Panday and Abishek Anand Panday, mother and brother, respectively, of Amitabh; and Sachin as accused.

The district police gave a clean chit to Dr Bains then but, earlier this month, he was among five people sentenced to five-year imprisonment for running a similar racket in Amritsar, and his Surya Kidney Centre was where the scam was on for many years. The centre's laboratory technician, Sachin, is also an accused.
