Concerned over the safety of their family members stranded in the violence-hit Iraq, villagers met the deputy commissioner here on Tuesday.
Though the families are in regular touch with them over telephone, the family members urged the Indian authorities to take necessary steps to evacuate them.
Led by the local Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) activists, the aggrieved persons met the DC, Balraj Singh.
The family members were angry over the fact that no one from the government visited them for support. However, some of the villagers said that a team of officials from New Delhi had visited them recently and assured all possible help.
Reena Devi of Rampura village said that her husband Sushil Kumar had reached Iraq in May but he was stuck in view of the violence.
“My husband is calling me daily from Iraq. Though he is safe but we all are concerned about his safety. He has not only lost his work but my husband is not getting enough food to survive,” said the sobbing woman at the mini-secretariat.
As Sushil has little money, he may not be able to even contact his family, she said.
Reena said that her husband had taken a loan of `1.5 lakh and the couple has a three-year-old child who is not keeping well.

Another villager Veerbhan said that his son and two relatives were stuck in Basra and their employers had stopped paying them salary.
“They are living in deplorable conditions and we urge the authorities for safe arrival of our family members and all other Indians,” he said.
Meanwhile, DC Balraj Singh told reporters said the district administration had no official data of those working overseas, including Iraq.
“Ministry of external affairs, which has all relevant information is pursuing such cases. Anyone approaching us will be guided in the right direction as only Centre could intervene in such matters,” said the DC.
