While talking to mediapersons here on Friday, Kashyap criticised the Centre for bringing the ordinance to amend the Land Acquisition Act, terming it a hasty step.

He wondered as to what was the need of bringing the ordinance when the budget session of Parliament was scheduled for February.

He alleged that the Modi government was favouring capitalists and was proving anti-farmer.

Kashyap also alleged that the Punjab government was delaying the civic body elections in the state, which had raised a serious question mark over its intentions to hold the elections. He demanded that the programme for holding the civic body elections in the state must be announced immediately.

Meanwhile, Punjab BSP president Avtar Singh Karimpuri, who was also present on the occasion, said the party would contest the civic body elections on its own symbol and would not enter into an alliance with any other party.

He thanked the party workers for making the conference organised at Phagwara on Thursday to celebrate the birthday of party supremo Mayawati a success.
