Law student gets 2-year jail for hitting traffic cop

District and sessions judge SK Aggarwal on Friday awarded two-year jail to a 21-year-old law student for rash and negligent driving and injuring a traffic cop. The convict has been identified as Jatinder Mishra.

However, the court later granted bail to the convict against the bail bonds of Rs 20,000.

This is the third such conviction where a youth have been convicted for injuring a cop while apprehending traffic violators.

As per the prosecution, on October 30, 2009, Mishra had hit traffic constable Surinder, who tried to stop him for violation. Mishra, who was 19 at the time of incident, was pursuing his BCA from Sri Guru Gobind Singh College, Sector 26.

As per the police, he was on a two-wheeler and his female friend was riding pillion when he jumped red light at the Sector-26 light point. He was signalled to stop by the cop but instead of slowing down he tried to speed away and hit the cop.
