Lawyer seeks publicity of SC guidelines on firecrackers

City-based advocate Ajay Jagga has written to UT adviser KK Sharma urging him to immediately issue prohibitory orders regarding firecrackers and also give wide publicity to the noise standards and regulations for firecrackers as declared by the Supreme Court, in public interest.

City-based advocate Ajay Jagga has written to UT adviser KK Sharma urging him to immediately issue prohibitory orders regarding firecrackers and also give wide publicity to the noise standards and regulations for firecrackers as declared by the Supreme Court, in public interest.

In his letter, Jagga has stated that the manufacture date and sale or use of firecrackers generating noise level exceeding 125 dB (AI) or 145 dB(C) pk at 4 metre from the point of bursting should be prohibited.

He further stated that the use of or firecrackers should not be permitted except between 6am and 10pm.

Jagga also maintained that firecrackers should not be used at any time in silence zones, as per the directions of the ministry of environment and forests. In the said notification silence zone has been defined as: “Silence zone is an area comprising not less than 100 metre around hospitals, educational institutions, courts, religious places or any other area which is declared as such by the competent authority.”
