The meteorological department has predicted light snowfall in the higher reaches and heavy showers in parts of Kashmir in the next 24 hours with the minimum temperature dipping several notches on Wednesday.
Director of the Met department Sonum Lotus said there would be light snowfall and heavy rains in parts of Kashmir during the next 24 hours.
While the sun played hide and seek in Srinagar after a brief snowfall in the morning, the minimum was recorded at 1.0 degree Celsius as against 1.7 degrees last night.
The upper reaches of the Valley received light snowfall with Gulmarg receiving 13cm snow. The minimum temperature in Gulmarg was recorded at minus 4.2 degrees Celsius as against minus 6.2 degrees on Monday.
Phalgam received 12cm snow and recorded a minimum of minus 1.2 degrees as against minus 0.2 degrees Celsius last night.
Kupwara in north Kashmir received 20cm snow and recorded a minimum of 0.2 degrees Celsius, while Qazigund recorded 0.2 degrees and Kukernag - minus 1.0 degree Celsius.
However, Kargil was the coldest place in the state with a low of minus 8.0 degrees Celsius as against minus 9.4 degrees last night, while Leh in the Ladakh region shivered at minus 3.9 degrees as against minus 3.6 degrees last night.

As several parts of the Valley receive a fresh snowfall and rain on Wednesday, the Srinagar-Jammu national highway, connecting Kashmir with the rest of the country, was closed for brief time on Wednesday, but was opened for one-way traffic after snow was cleared near the Jawahar Tunnel.
“The traffic moved from Srinagar to Jammu on Wednesday. However, to ensure smooth traffic, we allowed only one-way vehicular moment, said a traffic official.
