The need was to change the system, and leave no scope for corrupt practices, he said in an interaction with the media. "The Punjab government is taking initiatives for administrative reforms to streamline the functioning of all government departments and make them corruption-free," said Sukhbir.

If the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) came to power, the country would witness historic administrative reforms, "like Punjab had shown the way to ensure efficient delivery system by transforming the system", said the deputy CM, who is also president of the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), a constituent of the NDA led by the BJP.

Sukhbir said he was not opposed to the constituting of the Lokpal but a strong votary of outside-the-box administrative reforms to minimise the interaction between common masses and the government offices, "the only way to eradicate corruption".

Replying to a query about the agenda of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Sukhbir said it was the imitating the SAD but was yet to achieve even 10% of what the Akalis had implemented. Giving the example of sangat darshan, Sukhbir said the AAP initiatives were the 50-year-old tested style of functioning of Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal.
