The police have arrested a Ludhiana man Gagandeep Singh, 28, in connection with theft of valuables after drugging passengers travelling in luxury buses on Delhi-Chandigarh route.

The police have arrested a Ludhiana man Gagandeep Singh, 28, in connection with theft of valuables after drugging passengers travelling in luxury buses on Delhi-Chandigarh route.

The accused has been identified as Gagandeep Singh, who, the police said, along with his brother-in-law, identified as Raja, a Delhi resident, was targeting the passengers. The police sources said that stolen gold ornaments and other valuables had been recovered from Gagandeep.

Sources said that the police procured CCTV camera footages from different places where the luxury buses generally halt, including Haryana tourism department’s resorts at Karnal and Ambala. From the footage, the police zeroed in on Gagandeep and then arrested him. During investigations, the police came to know that Gagandeep had already been sentenced to five-year jail by a Kurkushetra court in a similar case, wherein he had drugged a passenger who later died. He had been arrested by the Pipli police.

Giving details of the modus operandi, the police officials who interrogated the accused said Gagandeep would mix sedatives in cold drinks and then offer the same to the co-passenger, his prospective target, with whom he would become friendly during the course of journey. Police sources said an excessive dose of the sedatives could also result in death.
In the recent past, at least three passengers travelling in Volvo buses between Delhi and Chandigarh were found drugged and their valuables stolen.
