The family of Major General AK Lal, General-Officer-Commanding (GOC) of 3 Infantry Division in Ladakh, who faces a court of inquiry following an accusation of misconduct by a woman captain, on Thursday defended him and in turn charged the woman officer with scandalous behaviour.
At a press conference here, the general's daughter, Shilpi Lal Sharma, and his sister, Archana Sharma, said the woman captain's conduct had been "unworthy of an officer and a lady" in her present and previous postings.
They alleged that the captain had been under surveillance at her previous posting in Patiala because of her conduct and was warned for "excessive alcoholism and moving disgracefully with several men".
Maj Gen Lal's wife Akanksha spoke to mediapersons by mobile phone from Srinagar. She said the captain had levelled allegations against her husband after he complained to superior authorities about her misconduct.
The family also provided mediapersons with photocopies of a report of the military police of 3 Infantry Division where she was allegedly found travelling late at night in an army vehicle in the company of male officers in a drunken state.
The documents also showed she had been counselled for her behaviour by senior officers on two occasions. The family refused to disclose where they obtained copies of the military reports from.

{{/usCountry}}Efforts to contact the woman officer and her father in Dehradun over telephone proved futile.
The general's wife said the captain should not be allowed to take refuge in her gender and that the army should take action against her for falsely implicating the general.
She said her husband treated the woman officer like his daughter and was in a state of shock after being attached for the inquiry. Lt Gen AS Sekhon, GOC of 15 Corps in Srinagar, is conducting the inquiry against him.
